Recently the Sheriff’s Office requested assistance to provide a mobile command station for the Unmanned Aircraft System.  The Drone program is very effective, although Deputies have found that on remote assignments,  such as real search and rescue, or in areas with heavy wi-fi activity, the drone feeds are not as reliable as they would like.   Additionally, their largest drone cannot be transported in a squad car.  The proposed addition to the Unmanned Aircraft System would be a large van equipped with wi-fi, video feed monitors, high speed charging stations and storage capacity for multiple drone units.  This mobile command station will not only expand the capabilities of the Drones but will greatly increase the effectiveness of these valuable tools.  The Placer County Sheriff’s Council anticipates the cost of this worthy addition to be between $60,000 and $75,000 for a fully functioning mobile command station.
